Fabric question

More for general discussion :
solitary crafter has volunteered to sash/back/quilt the fabric pieces since I admitted that I'm only good for joining. :) I'm happy to collect pieces and send them off to her for that, but I think that would mean making pieced squares only. The benefit is that it would end up being a more coherent blanket, but the possible negatives are that it would allow for less creativity/personalized squares since each person isn't quilting/backing their own creations. I'll go with majority decision on this one - what do all you fabric people think? And is there an inbetween option I'm missing?

I'll go with the group consensus - I am fine either way.

It is possible to be rather creative in just one 7x7 square. Part of what makes quilting so awesome, at least for me, as that the actually quilting and the pattern of the scraps does not have to match.

I think it would work that way, and we needn't be limited to *pieced* squares! Appliqued squares would work just fine, and I think that thin felted squares would also probably work. And we could also have a square or two from people who want to contribute but can't sew who went and found really fun quilting fabric for the occasional plain square --which would also help round out the number if we don't *quite* have enough squares for a blankie.

It would also solve the what-batting-to-use problem.

one thought... is 7x7 the finished size (i.e. what we would turn in for someone else to sash/sandwich/quilt should be 7.5x7.5?)

Oh, yeah (sorry for the successive posts, but I can't edit the old ones...) embroidered squares should work too, as long as there's enough space around the edge for sewing them together.

I'm not fond of the quilting part, so it's fine with me!

It would definitely be easier for me if someone else did the backing.

Thank you solitary crafter!

I'm happy to do it, y'all. Whatever block catches your fancy, pieced, applique, plain squares, what have you, I'll make 'em fit even if I have to find a bigger hammer. :)

oh, and bald soprano made a great point. make sure you give me enough room for the seam, a half inch all around is perfect, that way I can get the quarter inch seam.

So we need to make blocks 7.5" as we would if we intended to have finished blocks measuring 7", correct?

Is there any chance that photos can be taken and posted of the finished quilts?

Oh, absolutely. That's a given. :)
